Department description

The Friends of the Kennedy Center volunteer department is responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and motivating the Center's corps of 500 regularly scheduled in-house volunteers who assist with tours, retail, media, education, information technology, the Washington National Opera and administrative work, among many other areas, delivering high quality service to the nation's performing arts center. Additionally, the department oversees the Festival/Event volunteer corps of 2,000+, who provides additional support for the Center's festivals and special programs; the Global Friends Global Friends, representing 55 different countries; and NexGenFriends, volunteers ages 18 - 40.

Project description

Placement Project A: Supervise team of tour guides for a dedicated tour for The Reach as an extension of the official Kennedy Center tour, to include architectural dynamics, use of the space and the grounds, and interesting facts about the construction. There would also be a virtual version of this tour on the Center's website.

Placement Project B: Expand scope of impact of the volunteer support of the NexGenFriends by promoting partnership with other young professional performing arts groups nationally.

Placement Project C: Cultivate strategies to promote "Tours For Young People program" to D.C. school system as well as educate and engage teachers about the program.
