Department description

The Kennedy Center Music Education programs introduce young people, families, and adults to genres including, but not limited to, opera, jazz, classical and new music, hip-hop, and electronic music by presenting specially designed live performances and events; developing and promoting talented young people through training programs and competitions; and creating and distributing digital and written resources. The Music and NSO Education intern assists staff with all Music Education projects, with particular focus on the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) In School Ensembles. We are looking for a passionate individual who believes in the power of music to inspire and enrich one's life. We seek a creative, detail-oriented and organized individual interested in arts management and arts education outside of the classroom. Intern may have the opportunity to observe training programs, rehearsals, and performances along with the NSO Youth Fellows and Young Associates.

Project description

Through exposure to the following projects, the intern will develop his/her skills for effective program management; communication in a creative environment; critical and strategic evaluation of an education program; ability to multi-task and prioritize work load; and experience working closely with a varied populations:

NSO In School Ensembles: Intern will act as lead contact for the program -- serving as a liaison for performing musicians and partnership schools.

Career Trajectory Programs: Intern will assist Manager of NSO and Music Education with the recruitment, selection, and coordination processes for the NSO Summer Music Institute and NSO Young Associates, and NSO Youth Fellowship program.

General Music Education: Intern will support other program events, working closely with Music Education team and Kennedy Center programs, as needed.
