The Kennedy Center

NSO Operations Intern

The National Symphony Orchestra Operations department produces a wide variety of symphonic, pops, education, and televised programs, both in the Kennedy Center, in the community, and on tour. We are looking for a passionate individual who wants to learn firsthand how to produce orchestral concerts and gain valuable experience in the day-to-day operations of a professional symphony orchestra.

Concert Production

The intern will contribute to the planning and smooth operations of NSO concerts through a weekly set of responsibilities, including preparing technical schedules, arranging keyboard tunings, participating in production meetings, managing rehearsal space calendars, and other production-related tasks. The intern will have opportunities to shadow NSO staff backstage during rehearsals and concerts.

Operations & Departmental Projects

The intern will support day-to-day operations of the NSO staff and gain an understanding how the organization functions both in individual departments and as a whole.  Regular administrative tasks include maintaining purchase order logs, creating and distributing meeting agendas, and contributing to the general organization of the office.  The intern will have the opportunity to support NSO Community Engagement through research and preparation for community outreach activities and to assist NSO Personnel with running auditions.
