The Kennedy Center Music Education programs introduce young people, families, and adults to genres including, but not limited to, opera, jazz, classical and new music, hip-hop, and electronic music by presenting specially designed live performances and events; developing and promoting talented young people through training programs and competitions; and creating and distributing digital and written resources. The Intern assists staff with all Music Education projects, with particular focus on the WNO Young Associate and Opera Institute programs. We are looking for a passionate individual who believes in the power of music to inspire and enrich one’s life. We seek a creative, detail-oriented and organized individual interested in arts management and arts education outside of the classroom. Intern may have the opportunity to observe workshops, rehearsals, and performances with the WNO Young Associates. No genre-specific experience is necessary. Some evening and weekend events required.

Project description

The Music Education, WNO intern will develop the following Arts Management skills throughout their internship placement: 1. Effective program management; 2. Communication in a creative environment; 3. Critical and strategic evaluation of an education program; 4. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work load; 5. Experience working with populations relevant to education work (students, teachers, parents, etc.) Major Placement Project: Washington National Opera Young Associate, Kids Create Opera, and Opera Institute programs

• Phase 1 o Initiative 1 Intern will assist in the planning and implementation of advertising, scheduling, and registration processes for WNO Education programs. o Initiative 2 Intern will coordinate program events, working closely with Music Education team, WNO faculty and staff • Phase 2 o Initiative 1 Intern will support other Music Education programs during that semester, as needed.
