Theater for Young Audiences Intern

Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences (KCTYA) commissions, produces, presents, and tours a wide variety of productions for young people. We are looking for a passionate individual who wishes to help create quality theatrical experiences for young people. We value creativity, open-mindedness, and a sense of play!

Learning Objectives:

1. Self Motivation: Intern will develop a sense of awareness for professional responsibility and investment in programmatic work.
2. Collaborative Programming: Interns will gain hands-on experience with the many moving parts of season planning, as it relates to both KCTYA and the greater Kennedy Center programmatic initiatives. 
3. Artistic Communication: Intern will develop practical experience and confidence in communications with national and international artists as representative of the Kennedy Center.

Project description

Project A: New Work Development Intern will gain an understanding of the processes of developing new work for young audiences through providing organizational support for workshops of upcoming TYA productions and participating in commissioning and season planning discussions. Duties include attending meetings on future commissions, providing hospitality, scripts, and other materials for artists in rehearsals, and providing dramaturgical feedback on scripts and productions in-process. Project B: Company Management Intern will gain an understanding of company management through assisting in planning and preparation for the TYA produced shows, Kid Prince and Pablo and Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, The Musical!. The intern will be responsible for assisting in planning and implementation of engagement activities, hospitality and travel arrangements as well as administrative and on-site assistance to the rehearsal team(s). Additionally, intern will have administrative duties.
