Department description

The General Counsel's Office (OGC) at the Kennedy Center sits at the helm of the Center's regulatory and legislative issues. The department advises Kennedy Center, National Symphony Orchestra, Washington National Opera and other related boards and staff on legal and policy issues including contracts, licensing, copyright, trademark and other intellectual property issues. The OGC is also responsible for preparing and processing visa applications for international artists and production staff and acquiring insurance certificates for uninsured visiting artists and companies

Project description

The Legal Intern will be mentored by a small team of four on all legal matters involving the Kennedy Center, including the National Symphony Orchestra and Washington National Opera. Legal matters include but are not limited to: copyright, trademark and other intellectual property, employment law, insurance, union requirements, litigation, the Center's federal agency and tax exempt status, security matters and others. The main focus of this internship will be legal research and support for the legal staff, and will also include learning about and providing assistance with federal tort claim investigations, visa applications for foreign artists, board governance and public performance reporting.
